Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Law K Shanmugam will visit Qatar and Iran from 23 February to 27 February 2014 as part of a regional tour.
In Qatar, Minister Shanmugam will be hosted by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Khalid Bin Mohammed Al Attiyah. Minister Shanmugam will also call on the Emir, His Highness Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, as well as Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Abdullah Bin Nasser Bin Khalifa Al Thani. This will be Minister Shanmugam’s introductory visit to Qatar as Foreign Minister. The visit is also part of Singapore’s efforts to strengthen relations with members of the Gulf Cooperation Council.
Following his visit to Qatar, Minister Shanmugam will make an introductory visit to Iran at the invitation of the Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohammad Javad Zarif. In addition to a meeting with Foreign Minister Zarif, Minister Shanmugam will call on President Hassan Rouhani and other Iranian leaders in Tehran. Minister Shanmugam will also visit Isfahan where he is scheduled to meet with local leaders.
Minister Shanmugam will be accompanied by senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
