MFA Press Statement: Appointment of Singapore's Honorary Consul in Lisbon, Portugal

                The Government of the Republic of Singapore, with the agreement of the Government of the Portuguese Republic, has appointed Dr António Tomás Correia as Singapore's new Honorary Consul in Lisbon, Portugal, with jurisdiction over Portugal.

                  Dr Correia has been Chairman of the Montepio Board since May 2008.  The Montepio Group is one of the largest financial institutions in Portugal.  The Montepio Geral Associacao Mutualista, the mutual association under the group, is the largest mutual association in Portugal.  It has recently established its presence in Angola, Mozambique and several eastern African States, and is working with Dutch bank Rabobank to establish itself as the major foreign bank in these parts of Africa.  Dr Correia was also previously Chairman of Banco Bandeirantes and Member of the Board of Banco Itau in Brazil and Executive Director and Member of the Board of Caixa Geral de Depósitos, the largest Portuguese bank.
