MFA Press Statement: State Visit of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, 21 to 23 April 2014

         His Majesty Paduka Seri Baginda Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, is on the third and last day of his State Visit to Singapore today.


         Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong accompanied His Majesty on a morning walk at the Gardens by the Bay.  During the walk, the two leaders planted a Kapur Paji sapling, a gift to the Gardens by the Brunei Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources (MIPR).  The Kapur Paji sapling is endemic to Borneo and is one of six tropical tree species presented by the MIPR to the Gardens.  This is the first time that the Prime Minister and a foreign leader have conducted a sapling-planting at the Gardens by the Bay. 


         Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong called on His Majesty.  ESM and His Majesty reaffirmed the decades-old friendship between the leaders and peoples of the two countries.  In the afternoon, His Majesty visited the Singapore LNG Terminal on Jurong Island, hosted by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office, Second Minister for Trade and Industry, and Second Minister for Home Affairs S Iswaran.  His Majesty and Minister Iswaran toured and received a briefing on the Terminal, the first LNG terminal in Singapore, and also discussed bilateral energy cooperation.

 

       His Majesty will return to Brunei in the afternoon of 24 April 2014.  His Majesty’s State Visit has reaffirmed the warm and abiding ties between Singapore and Brunei.  The visit gives added momentum for both countries to continue strengthening the bonds between their leaders and peoples for the future generation.  It has also reinforced the longstanding partnership between the two countries while paving the way for both sides to explore new areas of cooperation.
