MFA Press Statement: Visit by Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Law K Shanmugam to The United Mexican States, 20 May 2014

        Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Law K Shanmugam met with Mexican Undersecretary of Industry and Commerce Jose Rogelio Garza on 20 May 2014.  They discussed the growing economic ties between Singapore and Mexico, and reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthen trade and investment linkages between both countries.  In particular, Minister Shanmugam expressed interest to expand bilateral cooperation in the areas of energy and infrastructure development.  

        Minister Shanmugam also had a roundtable discussion with prominent Mexican business leaders and representatives from Singapore companies based in Mexico City.  They discussed the dynamic economic and investment landscape in Mexico and the opportunities this presents for foreign investment into Mexico, tapping into the broader North America, Pacific Alliance and Latin American markets.  Minister Shanmugam also encouraged Mexico to look to Singapore as a prime hub from which Mexican companies could explore opportunities in the promising and growing Asia-Pacific market, to bring about greater trade and investment links between Latin America and Southeast Asia.
