5 June 2014
His Excellency Abdel Fattah El-Sisi
President-Elect
Arab Republic of Egypt
Your Excellency,
On behalf of the people of Singapore, I offer my warmest congratulations on your election as President of the Arab Republic of Egypt. Your assumption of office will mark the completion of an important phase of Egypt’s political transition.
Singapore and Egypt enjoy close, longstanding ties, which are underpinned by bilateral and multi-lateral cooperation in international fora. Our ties at the people-to-people level remain strong. Many Singapore students continue to pursue their higher religious education at Al-Azhar University. Given our respective strategic locations in Asia, Africa and the Middle East, there are opportunities for further growth in bilateral trade relations.
As you embark on steps to steer Egypt back onto the path of stability and prosperity, Singapore stands ready to assist by sharing relevant aspects of our developmental experiences with Egypt. I look forward to working closely with you to strengthen our bilateral ties.
Please accept, Your Excellency, the assurances of my highest consideration.
TONY TAN KENG YAM
