MFA Press Statement: Visit by 1st Vice President Dr Sai Mauk Kham, Republic of the Union of Myanmar, 13-17 July

    Myanmar’s 1st Vice President Dr Sai Mauk Kham met with Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong at the Istana today.  Dr Sai Mauk Kham was also hosted to lunch by ESM Goh.

 

    PM Lee and Dr Sai Mauk Kham affirmed the warm and long-standing bilateral relations, and noted the growing people-to-people ties between both countries.  Dr Sai Mauk Kham, who heads the ministerial committees on health and education in Myanmar, expressed a keen interest in Singapore’s healthcare and education policies, and had a wide-ranging discussion with PM Lee on these two issues.  ESM Goh had an extensive exchange with Dr Sai Mauk Kham on Myanmar’s domestic developments and socio-economic reforms. 

 

    Dr Sai Mauk Kham also thanked PM Lee and ESM Goh for Singapore’s support of Myanmar’s development through the Singapore-Myanmar Technical Cooperation Programme, which was launched during Myanmar President Thein Sein’s visit to Singapore in 2012.  PM Lee and ESM Goh informed Dr Sai Mauk Kham that the Singapore-Myanmar Vocational Training Institute in Yangon will commence its classes next year, and assured Dr Sai Mauk Kham that Singapore’s support for Myanmar’s development would continue.

 

    Dr Sai Mauk Kham also visited Khoo Teck Puat Hospital and the Tuas South Incineration Plant today.  He will be hosted to dinner by Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for Home Affairs, and Coordinating Minister for National Security Teo Chee Hean this evening, and call on President Tony Tan tomorrow.
