United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, Ms Valerie Amos will visit Singapore from 9 to 12 July 2014. Ms Amos is also head of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UN OCHA) which is responsible for mobilising and coordinating humanitarian actors to ensure a coherent response to emergencies.
Ms Amos’ visit programme will include meetings with Minister for Defence Ng Eng Hen, Second Minister for Foreign Affairs Grace Fu and Commissioner of the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) Eric Yap. On 10 July 2014, she will visit the SCDF’s Civil Defence Academy and Republic of Singapore Navy’s Changi Command and Control Centre (C2CC) and Info-Fusion Centre (IFC) where she will receive a briefing on Singapore’s proposal for a Regional Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief Coordination Centre (RHCC). She will also give a lecture entitled “The Future of Humanitarian Action: Reshaping the international humanitarian system for a new generation of emergency response” at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy (LKYSPP) on 11 July 2014.
