The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, His Excellency Erlan Idrissov, is in Singapore today on a working visit. Minister Idrissov called on Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and was hosted to lunch by Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Law K Shanmugam.
During the call by Minister Idrissov, PM Lee affirmed the warm bilateral relations between Singapore and Kazakhstan, and welcomed closer business links and people-to-people exchanges. PM Lee noted the potential for both countries to expand their cooperation in various fields. Minister Idrissov also conveyed the personal regards of President Nursultan Nazarbayev to PM Lee and Mr Lee Kuan Yew, whom President Nazarbayev admires as a global statesman.
Separately, Minister Shanmugam welcomed Kazakhstan’s continued interest in learning from Singapore’s experience in areas such as education and public administration. He encouraged Kazakhstan companies to use Singapore as a hub to explore opportunities in ASEAN. Both Ministers also had a good exchange of views on regional developments.
