MFA Press Statement: Congratulatory Letters from President Tony Tan Keng Yam and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong to President-Elect of the European Council Donald Tusk, 1 September 2014

                

                   Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk was elected as the next President of the European Council on 30 August 2014.  President Tony Tan Keng Yam and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong have written congratulatory letters to President-elect Tusk.

                   Singapore and the EU share close and longstanding ties, which are underscored by excellent people-to-people relations.  I look forward to working with you to further strengthen the bilateral relationship.

                  

 

                   I recall the useful exchange we had during your visit to Singapore in November 2012, and hope to meet you again before too long.  I wish you every success in your new appointment.

                   Singapore and the EU enjoy good relations, underpinned by multi-faceted cooperation.  The recently concluded EU-Singapore Free Trade Agreement and EU-Singapore Partnership and Cooperation Agreement will further strengthen our ties and benefit our peoples.  I look forward to your support for their early ratification.

 

                    I remember well my visit to Warsaw and Gdańsk last year, and the very warm welcome you gave me. I hope to meet you again soon, in your new appointment.
