The new Chancery of the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Singapore to the United Nations in New York was officially opened on 25 September 2014.

The event was officiated by Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Law K Shanmugam, who is in New York for the 69th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

In his remarks at the official opening, Minister Shanmugam said that when Singapore first gained independence in 1965, achieving membership in the UN was a priority.  Today, Singapore remained just as committed to the purposes and principles of the UN Charter which provided security in our external environment so that we could embark on our own path of development.  The opening of the chancery was testament of our commitment to the work of the UN and marked a milestone in Singapore’s relationship with the UN.
