MFA Press Statement: Visit by Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Law K Shanmugam to the United States of America to attend the 69th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, 20 to 29 September 2014

            Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Law K Shanmugam will be in the United States of America from 20 to 29 September 2014 to attend the 69th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

 

            Minister Shanmugam will deliver Singapore’s statement at the General Debate of the UNGA.  In New York, Minister Shanmugam will attend a number of meetings, including the Ministerial Meeting of the Global Governance Group and the Informal ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, as well as hold bilateral meetings with his counterparts from various countries.  He will also attend the Atlantic Council 2014 Global Citizen Awards ceremony and accept an award on behalf of former Prime Minister Mr Lee Kuan Yew.  In addition, Minister Shanmugam will officially open the new building of the Permanent Mission of Singapore to the United Nations and the Consulate of Singapore in New York, which re-located to its new premises on 9 June 2014.

                

            Minister Shanmugam will also speak at the launch of the Lee Kuan Yew Chair for Southeast Asia Studies at the Brookings Institution in Washington DC.
