Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office and the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth Mr Sam Tan will visit Reykjavik, Iceland, from 29 October to 3 November 2014 to attend the 2nd Arctic Circle Assembly (ACA). Mr Tan will address its Opening Session. On the sidelines of the conference, Mr Tan will have meetings with Arctic interlocutors including United States Special Representative for the Arctic Admiral Robert J. Papp Jr. and CEO of the World Ocean Council Paul Holthus.
Mr Tan will also separately call on President Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson, Prime Minister Sigmundur Davíð Gunnlaugsson and Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade Gunnar Bragi Sveinsson of Iceland.
Initiated by President Grímsson, the Arctic Circle is a platform for a more inclusive dialogue on Arctic issues, so as to strengthen the international focus on the future of the Arctic. This is the second time that Singapore has been invited to attend the ACA. The inaugural ACA was attended by more than 1,200 participants from 40 countries.
Mr Tan will be accompanied by officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
