MFA Press Statement: VISIT OF MINISTER FOR MANPOWER TAN CHUAN-JIN TO INDONESIA 24 TO 27 NOVEMBER 2014



        Minister for Manpower Tan Chuan-Jin visited Aceh and Jakarta, Indonesia from 24 to 27 November 2014.

 

        While in Aceh, Minister Tan had dinner with Vice-Governor Muzakir Manaf. They discussed developments in Aceh and opportunities for cooperation between Singapore and Aceh. Minister Tan encouraged Vice-Governor Muzakir to send Aceh officials to participate in courses under the Singapore Cooperation Programme in areas relevant to Aceh’s development.

 

        Minister Tan visited the Cut Nyak Dhien Meulaboh General Hospital, the Meulaboh concrete pier and the Fajar Hidayah Boarding School in Aceh. These were some of the projects which Singapore helped to develop after the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami. Minister Tan also handed over a donation of 100 English-language books from the National Library Board to the Fajar Hidayah Boarding School.

 

        In Jakarta, Minister Tan met his counterpart, Minister for Manpower Hanif Dhakiri. They discussed ways to enhance bilateral cooperation on labour issues in areas of mutual benefit for Singapore and Indonesia. Minister Hanif thanked Minister Tan for the measures the Singapore Government had put in place to enhance the protection and welfare of foreign workers. Minister Tan also invited Minister Hanif to visit Singapore.

 

        In addition, Minister Tan met old friends including Defence Minister Ryamizard Ryacudu, Minister for State Administrative and Bureaucratic Reforms Yuddy Chrisnandi and Cabinet Secretary Andi Widjajanto. Minister Tan had good discussions with these Cabinet Ministers on developments in Indonesia. Minister Tan reiterated Singapore’s desire to work closely with the new administration to further enhance the bilateral relationship between Singapore and Indonesia.
