MFA Press Release: Condolence Letters from Singapore Leaders on the Crash of Indonesia AirAsia Flight QZ8501, 31 December 2014

            President Tony Tan Keng Yam and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong have written to Indonesian President Joko Widodo to convey their condolences over the crash of Indonesia AirAsia flight QZ8501.  Deputy Prime Minister, Coordinating Minister for National Security and Minister for Home Affairs Teo Chee Hean, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Law K Shanmugam and Minister for Transport Lui Tuck Yew have also sent letters to their Indonesian counterparts to express their sympathies.

                        I was saddened to learn of the crash of Indonesia AirAsia flight QZ 8501 and the tragic loss of so many lives.  On behalf of the people of Singapore, I extend my heartfelt condolences to the families who have lost loved ones.

 

                        Singapore is committed to working with Indonesia in the ongoing recovery efforts.  As close neighbours and partners, Singapore and Indonesia have stood together in past crises and I am sure that we will continue to support one another during this difficult time.

         I was shocked and deeply saddened to learn that Indonesia AirAsia flight QZ 8501 had crashed on 28 December 2014.  On behalf of the Government and people of Singapore, I express our deepest condolences on this tragedy.  Our thoughts are with the bereaved families.

 

         As I had conveyed to you during our telephone conversation on 28 December, Singapore stands in solidarity with Indonesia during this difficult time.  We will continue to work closely with Indonesia in the recovery operation and provide further assistance that may be required.
