MFA Press Statement: Messages from Singapore Leaders to Lao People’s Democratic Republic (PDR) Leaders In Commemoration of the 40th Anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations Between Singapore and the Lao PDR, 2 December 2014



        Singapore and the Lao People’s Democratic Republic established diplomatic relations on 2 December 1974. To commemorate the 40th Anniversary of that event, President Tony Tan Keng Yam, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Law K Shanmugam exchanged messages with Lao President Choummaly Sayasone, Prime Minister Thongsing Thammavong, and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Thongloun Sisoulith. Our cooperation is built on a strong foundation of friendship between our peoples. I am confident that our relations will continue to deepen and broaden to the mutual benefit of our countries and peoples in the years to come.

Over the past four decades, the bilateral relationship has grown from strength to strength, and I believe there is potential for us to deepen bilateral cooperation even further.

 

        Our close cooperation extends to ASEAN. I am confident that by working closely together, ASEAN will be able to handle the challenges ahead and seize the opportunities that emerge.
