Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Law K Shanmugam, who is on a visit to Jakarta, Indonesia, was hosted to lunch by Minister for Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi today. The two Ministers reaffirmed the strong ties between Singapore and Indonesia and discussed areas in which both sides could expand cooperation. They agreed on the need for Singapore and Indonesia to continue working closely together within ASEAN, especially as the region approached the establishment of the ASEAN Community next year.
Minister Shanmugam also called on Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Tedjo Edhi Purdijatno. The Ministers had a broad discussion on how Singapore and Indonesia can deepen the strong cooperation between the two countries. They also discussed regional and international developments.
In addition, Minister Shanmugam visited Indonesian Democratic Party – Struggle (PDI-P) Chairperson Megawati Soekarnoputri. They exchanged views on current developments in Indonesia and the region.
