MFA Press Statement: Visit of Director General, International Atomic Energy Agency, Mr Yukiya Amano, 24 to 26 January 2015

 

          Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Mr Yukiya Amano will make a working visit to Singapore from 24 to 26 January 2015 as part of his regional tour of Southeast Asia, which includes Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines and Brunei.  He last visited Singapore in August 2010.

 

          During his visit, Amano will deliver a public lecture titled “Atoms for Peace in the 21st Century” under the Energy Market Authority’s Distinguished Speaker Programme.  He will also be hosted to lunch by Minister, Prime Minister’s Office, Second Minister for the Environment and Water Resources and Second Minister for Foreign Affairs Grace Fu on the same day.  In addition, Amano will visit the National Research Foundation, the Centre for Ion Beam Applications and the Singapore Synchrotron Light Source at the National University of Singapore, the National Cancer Centre of Singapore and the Singapore General Hospital’s Department of Nuclear Medicine and Positron Emission Tomography (PET).

 

          Since joining the IAEA in 1967, Singapore and the IAEA have worked closely to promote the safe, secure and peaceful use of nuclear technologies.  In particular, we cooperate with the IAEA to provide technical assistance to third countries in areas such as cancer treatment and radiation protection.
