The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has despatched a Crisis Response Team (CRT) to Kathmandu, Nepal, since Sunday (26 April 2015). The team is at the Kathmandu International Airport to assist Singaporeans wishing to leave.  This afternoon, the team facilitated the departure of 89 Singaporeans and Permanent Residents on two RSAF C-130s. The team is also working closely with Silkair to secure seats for Singaporeans wishing to return home.

Mr Danial Phua, the leader of the CRT in Kathmandu said: “The airport was very congested, and flights were delayed yesterday due to inclement weather and heavy air traffic. We organised the Singaporeans, helped them with their travel documents and updated them on departure details regularly. Our Singaporeans were very calm and patient, and kept their spirits up under trying conditions”.

MFA will continue to contact Singaporeans in Nepal. While ground telecommunications pose severe challenges, MFA will keep in close touch with the Nepalese authorities and the Next-of-Kin of all Singaporeans in Nepal until they are accounted for.

Singaporeans in Nepal who require consular assistance or advice can contact the MFA Duty Office (24 hours) at +65-6379-8800/8855 or mfa_duty_officer@mfa.gov.sg.
