Deputy Prime Minister, Coordinating Minister for National Security, Minister for Home Affairs and Minister-in-charge of the Civil Service Teo Chee Hean met Member of the Communist Party of China Politburo Standing Committee and Vice Premier Zhang Gaoli, as well as State Councillor and Minister of Public Security Guo Shengkun this afternoon.
Both Vice Premier Zhang and State Councillor Guo conveyed their deepest condolences to Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and the people of Singapore on the recent passing of Mr Lee Kuan Yew. They lauded the valuable contributions made by Mr Lee in laying the strong foundation for Singapore-China relations.
DPM Teo and Vice Premier Zhang affirmed the substantive and multi-faceted cooperation between Singapore and China. They noted that both countries are marking the 25th anniversary of diplomatic relations this year through several commemorative activities including the exchange of State Visits between President Tony Tan and President Xi Jinping. Both leaders agreed that the two sides should find innovative and path-breaking ways to bring our relations to greater heights.
During his meeting with State Councillor Guo, both leaders exchanged views on law-enforcement cooperation in tackling transnational crimes including terrorism, drug trafficking, corruption and cyber security.
DPM Teo will travel to Jinggangshan (Jiangxi Province) tomorrow to co-chair the 5th China-Singapore Forum on Leadership with Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Minister of the Central Organisation Department Zhao Leji on 9-10 April 2015.
