MFA Press Statement: State Visit of President of Hungary Dr János Áder, 8 to 11 April 2015

        President of Hungary Dr János Áder, who is on a State Visit to Singapore, received a ceremonial welcome at the Istana this morning.  It was followed by separate meetings with President Tony Tan Keng Yam and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.  Mrs Mary Tan also hosted the wife of President Áder Dr Anita Herczegh to tea.  After the meetings at the Istana, Speaker of Parliament Mdm Halimah Yacob hosted President Áder and his delegation to lunch. 

        President Tan and President Áder affirmed the excellent state of bilateral relations between Hungary and Singapore, and welcomed opportunities to strengthen trade and investment links, and cooperation in the fields of education and science and research, including in water resources technology.  At the meeting with PM Lee, the two leaders exchanged views on developments in Europe and Hungary and the challenges of climate change and sustainable development.  They also discussed the potential for greater cooperation in the higher education sector.  At the lunch with Speaker, President Áder welcomed the growing parliamentary ties between Singapore and Hungary.  

        President Áder also visited Marina Barrage, where he met Minister for the Environment and Water Resources Dr Vivian Balakrishnan and received briefings on Singapore’s water and sustainability efforts. 

        President Áder and Dr Herczegh will be hosted to a State Banquet by President and Mrs Tan at the Istana this evening.
