MFA Press Statement: Visit of Minister of State in The Prime Minister’s Office and the Ministry of Community, Culture and Youth Mr Sam Tan to Alaska, United States of America, 26 April to 1 May 2015

 

        Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office and the Ministry of Community, Culture and Youth Mr Sam Tan will visit the State of Alaska in the United States of America from 26 April to 1 May 2015, in furtherance of Singapore’s engagement of the Arctic.  The US has just taken over the two-year chairmanship of the Arctic Council from Canada at the 9th Arctic Council Ministerial Meeting held in Iqaluit (Nunavut), Canada, on 24 April 2015.  Since May 2013, Singapore has been an observer in the Arctic Council.  Alaska is the only federal state of the US that is in the Arctic. 

 

        Mr Tan will visit Anchorage and Fairbanks to meet a range of interlocutors, including members of the state senate and the Alaska Arctic Policy Commission, state commissioners, representatives of Arctic communities in Alaska, business leaders, academics and researchers from the University of Alaska Fairbanks.  Mr Tan will be accompanied by a delegation of officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as well as representatives from NUS and Keppel Offshore & Marine.
