In response to media queries on the deteriorating situation in Yemen, the MFA Spokesman said:
“Singapore welcomes and supports the call by United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon on 9 April 2015 for all parties to the conflict in Yemen to return to political negotiations and adhere to their obligations under international humanitarian law, including the protection of civilians.
MFA remains deeply concerned for the safety of Singaporeans in Yemen, especially those who have not yet decided to leave despite our repeated calls for them to do so. MFA will nonetheless continue to remain in close contact with them.
MFA has been making arrangements, in some cases in close collaboration with other foreign governments, to facilitate the departure of Singaporeans. We will continue to do so. However, how long we can carry on will depend on the ground conditions, which are unpredictable and rapidly deteriorating.
Singaporeans in Yemen who have yet to contact us or require assistance are urged to contact the MFA Duty Officer (24-hours) at: 6379 8800 / 8855 or mfa_duty_officer@mfa.gov.sg for advice and assistance.”
