A bipartisan United States Congressional delegation led by Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee (SASC) Senator John McCain (R-Arizona), called on Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong this afternoon at the Istana. The Congressional delegation comprises Ranking Member of the SASC Senator Jack Reed (D-Rhode Island) and Members of the SASC: Senator Mazie Hirono (D-Hawaii), Senator Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), and Senator Dan Sullivan (R-Alaska).
During the meeting, PM Lee welcomed the US’ commitment to continue deepening its engagement of the Asia-Pacific region. PM Lee and the Congressional delegation exchanged views on regional and international developments, including the importance of a successful conclusion of the Trans-Pacific Partnership agreement. PM Lee and the Congressional delegation also affirmed the excellent and longstanding bilateral relationship between Singapore and the US.
The Congressional delegation also met separately with Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Law K Shanmugam and Minister for Defence Ng Eng Hen.
The Congressional delegation is in Singapore from 29 to 30 May 2015 to attend the 2015 Shangri-La Dialogue.
