            Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Law K Shanmugam met US National Security Advisor Susan Rice on 16 June 2015.  During the meeting, they reaffirmed the close and multi-faceted bilateral relations between Singapore and the US and reiterated both countries’ commitment to further strengthen bilateral cooperation.  Minister Shanmugam and National Security Advisor Rice also discussed key regional and global developments and ways in which the US’ engagement of Asia could be enhanced.  Minister Shanmugam welcomed the US’ continued commitment to engage Asia and underscored the importance of concluding the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) as a strong signal of this commitment. 

            Minister Shanmugam was also hosted to lunch by US Deputy Secretary of State Antony Blinken.  During the lunch, Minister Shanmugam and Deputy Secretary Blinken took stock of the strong bilateral relations between Singapore and the US, reaffirming both countries’ broad political, economic and defence ties.

            At the launch of the Congressional Singapore Caucus, Minister Shanmugam thanked Caucus co-Chairs Representative Denny Heck and Representative Bradley Byrne and Caucus members for their warm friendship with Singapore and affirmed the strong bipartisan Congressional support for Singapore-US relations.  Minister Shanmugam also recognised the common strategic interests and mutual trust that underpin the Singapore-US relationship and highlighted the strong economic relationship between both countries, with Singapore companies having created close to 40,000 jobs in the US.
