MFA Press Statement: Visit by Minister for Culture, Community and Youth and Second Minister for Communications and Information Lawrence Wong to Brunei Darussalam, 14 to 15 August 2015

                   Minister for Culture, Community and Youth and Second Minister for Communications and Information Lawrence Wong visited Brunei Darussalam from 14 to 15 August 2015 as the Singapore Government’s representative to the 69th birthday celebrations of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, on 15 August 2015. 

 

                   Minister Lawrence Wong attended the Royal Guard of Honour Ceremony and Investiture Ceremony this morning.  In the afternoon, Minister Lawrence Wong had an audience with His Majesty, where he conveyed birthday greetings from Singapore’s leaders to His Majesty and expressed our appreciation for His Majesty’s attendance at Singapore’s 50th National Day Parade.  Both underscored our longstanding friendship and the importance of strengthening ties among the next generation of leaders through greater bilateral exchanges and visits.

 

                   Prior to his departure, Minister Lawrence Wong also met with his counterpart, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Pehin Haji Hazair Abdullah and Deputy Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Datin Hajah Adina Othman. They discussed ways to further strengthen bilateral engagement, particularly in the area of youth and sports, and looked forward to Brunei hosting the 2nd Singapore - Brunei Young Leaders Exchange Programme (SBYLEP) later this year.
