Senior Minister of State for Defence and Senior Minister of State for Foreign Affairs (SMS) Dr Mohamad Maliki Bin Osman will attend the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) 15th Council of Ministers Meeting in Padang, Indonesia on 23 October 2015. The meeting is hosted by incoming Chairman of IORA, Indonesia. During the meeting, SMS Maliki will participate in discussions among IORA member states on ways to enhance cooperation within the Indian Ocean Rim, and the sustainable development of the ocean economy. He will also hold meetings on the sidelines with foreign ministerial counterparts attending the IORA meeting.
Singapore is a founding member of IORA, which was established in 1997 to promote regional trade and economic cooperation among the Indian Ocean littoral and island states. The group currently has 20 member states from Africa, the Gulf, South Asia, Southeast Asia and Australia.
Following the meeting, SMS Maliki will be the guest-of-honour at a SG50 charity event in Jakarta on 23 October 2015, organised by the Singapore Embassy in Indonesia in support of the Indonesian Cancer Association (Jakarta Chapter).
SMS Maliki will be accompanied by senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
