        Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security Teo Chee Hean began his visit to Brunei Darussalam today for the 3rd Young Leaders’ Programme (YLP).  The YLP aims to strengthen relations between Brunei and Singapore, in particular between the younger generation of leaders.  DPM Teo is accompanied by Ministers Grace Fu and Masagos Zulkifli; Senior Ministers of State Indranee Rajah and Sim Ann; and Minister of State Chee Hong Tat.[1]

        DPM Teo and the delegation had an audience with His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.  DPM Teo thanked the Sultan for attending Singapore’s SG50 National Day Parade and expressed appreciation for Brunei’s friendship with Singapore through the past five decades.  They welcomed efforts, such as the YLP, to build on the longstanding and special relationship between both countries.  

        The delegation also had an audience with and was hosted to lunch by His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office.  DPM Teo and Crown Prince Billah affirmed the warm ties between Brunei and Singapore and agreed that the strong momentum of exchanges between the leaders of both countries should be sustained into the next generation. 

 

        DPM Teo and the delegation were also briefed on Brunei’s economic priorities including Wawasan (Vision) Brunei 2035 and PENGGERAK (a unit in the PMO to achieve National Goals through effective programme delivery), and exchanged views on the common challenges faced by Singapore and Brunei.  The delegation was also hosted to dinner by Brunei Minister of Energy Pehin Yasmin Umar.
