Senior Minister of State (SMS) for Foreign Affairs and Defence Dr Mohamad Maliki Osman made his introductory visit to Muscat, Oman from 1 to 3 November 2015. During his visit, SMS Maliki attended the 5th anniversary celebrations of the voyage of the Jewel of Muscat on 1 November 2015. He also met Singaporeans and their families living and working in Oman at a dinner reception on 2 November 2015.
SMS Maliki called on Omani Minister Responsible for Foreign Affairs His Excellency Yousuf Bin Alawi Bin Abdullah. They reaffirmed the excellent relations between Singapore and Oman as both countries celebrate the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations this year. SMS Maliki also called on Minister of Commerce and Industry His Excellency Dr Ali Bin Masoud Al Sunaidy and they agreed on the need to enhance economic cooperation, including expanding trade and investment between both countries.
SMS Maliki met the Secretary General of the Omani Ministry of Foreign Affairs His Excellency Sayyid Badr Bin Hamad Bin Hamood Al Busaidi and exchanged views on how to enhance bilateral cooperation and regional developments. SMS Maliki was also hosted to dinner by Secretary General of the Omani Ministry of Defence His Excellency Mohamed Bin Nasser Bin Mohammed Al Rasby. SMS Maliki conveyed his appreciation for Oman’s support for Singapore’s anti-piracy deployments in the Gulf of Aden. They also discussed regional security issues.
SMS Maliki will travel to Luxembourg from Oman to attend the 12th Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (FMM12) from 5 to 6 November 2015.
