MFA Press Statement: State Visit of His Excellency Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson, President of the Republic of Iceland to Singapore, 11 To 13 November 2015

    President of the Republic of Iceland His Excellency Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson will make a State Visit to Singapore from 11 to 13 November 2015 at the invitation of President Tony Tan Keng Yam.  This will be the first State Visit by an Icelandic President to Singapore. President Grímsson will be accompanied by First Lady Mdm Dorrit Moussaieff, Minister for Foreign Affairs Gunnar Bragi Sveinsson, and senior officials. 

    An official welcome ceremony will be held for President Grímsson on 11 November 2015, followed by a call on President Tan and a meeting with Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.  President Tan and Mrs Tan will host a State Banquet in honour of President Grímsson, Mdm Moussaieff and the accompanying delegation that same evening.  In addition, President Grímsson and Mdm Moussaieff will visit the Singapore Botanic Gardens, where an orchid will be named in their honour. 

    As part of his visit, President Grímsson will deliver the keynote speech at the Arctic Circle Forum organised by the Arctic Circle and the Singapore Maritime Institute, with support from the Singapore Government, on 12 November 2015.  He will also deliver a public lecture on “Clean Energy, Climate and the Arctic” under the Yale-NUS College President’s Speaker Series on 13 November 2015.  While here, President Grímsson will receive briefings at the Maritime Port Authority of Singapore and the Centre for Liveable Cities, as well as visit the Port of Singapore and the Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve.
