MFA Press Statement: State Visit of His Excellency Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson, President of the Republic of Iceland to Singapore, 11 to 13 November 2015

    President of the Republic of Iceland His Excellency Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson commenced his State Visit to Singapore today.

 

    President Grímsson and First Lady Dorrit Moussaieff were welcomed by President Tony Tan Keng Yam and Mrs Mary Tan at an official ceremony at the Istana in the afternoon.  Following the ceremony, President Grímsson called on President Tan and met with Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.  President Tan and President Grímsson reaffirmed the warm and growing ties between Singapore and Iceland, and discussed ways to strengthen bilateral as well as regional cooperation.  Prime Minister Lee and President Grímsson exchanged views on a wide variety of issues, including Singapore’s interests in the Arctic, climate change, and developments in Singapore and Iceland. 

 

    Earlier today, President Grímsson and Mdm Moussaieff visited the Singapore Botanic Gardens, where an orchid, Dendrobium Grímsson-Moussaieff, was named after them.  President Grímsson also had meetings with the Maritime Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) and PSA. 

 

    This evening, President Tan and Mrs Tan will host a State Banquet in honour of President Grímsson, Mdm Moussaieff and his delegation.
