MFA Press Statement: State Visit to Singapore by His Excellency Xi Jinping, President of the People’s Republic of China, 6 to 7 November 2015

                President of the People’s Republic of China His Excellency Xi Jinping will make a State Visit to Singapore from 6 to 7 November 2015 at the invitation of President Tony Tan Keng Yam.   This is part of the exchange of State Visits by the two Presidents to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Singapore and China this year, and follows President Tan’s State Visit to China in June/July 2015.  President Xi will be accompanied by his wife, Madam Peng Liyuan; Member of the Political Bureau and Head of the Policy Research Office of the Communist Party of China Central Committee (CPCCC) Wang Huning; Member of the Political Bureau and Head of the General Office of the CPCCC Li Zhanshu; State Councillor Yang Jiechi; as well as Ministers and other senior officials. 

                On 6 November 2015, President Tan will host an official Welcome Ceremony at the Istana, and receive a call by President Xi.  Mrs Mary Tan will separately host Madam Peng to tea.  President Tan and Mrs Tan will also host a State Banquet in honour of President Xi, Madam Peng and their delegation.

 

                On 7 November 2015, President Xi will meet Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and jointly witness a signing ceremony where several Memoranda of Understanding and agreements will be signed, including an exchange of letters for the official launch of negotiations for the upgrading of the China-Singapore Free Trade Agreement, and agreements related to the third Government-to-Government project in Western China, education cooperation, urban management, and collaboration between the two Customs.  President Xi and Madam Peng will visit the Singapore Botanic Gardens where an orchid hybrid “Papilionanda” will be named in their honour.  Prime Minister Lee and Mrs Lee will also host President Xi and Madam Peng to a private lunch.

 

                During the visit, President Xi will deliver the 36th Singapore Lecture at the National University of Singapore.  The session will be chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security Teo Chee Hean.  President Xi and Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong will officially open the China Cultural Centre.
