MFA Press Statement: Visit of Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security Teo Chee Hean to Jakarta, 23 to 25 November 2015

               Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security Teo Chee Hean, who is in Jakarta on a working visit, called on Indonesian President Joko Widodo today.  During the meeting, DPM Teo and President Widodo reaffirmed the excellent and long-standing ties between Singapore and Indonesia.  DPM Teo and President Widodo discussed how Singapore and Indonesia could cooperate better in haze prevention.  They also discussed various ways in which Singapore and Indonesia could further strengthen the long-standing mutually-beneficial military-to-military relationship.  On the Flight Information Region (FIR), DPM Teo and President Widodo agreed that the priority should be safety, efficiency and the smooth operation of the FIR.  DPM Teo and President Widodo also discussed how Singapore and Indonesia could enhance existing cooperation in counter-terrorism.

 

               DPM Teo informed President Widodo that Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong looked forward to visiting Indonesia in 2016, as a follow-up to President Widodo’s visit to Singapore in July 2015.  Both leaders would then continue discussions on further strengthening the bilateral relationship, including through the six Working Groups on economic cooperation.  

                

               DPM Teo will conclude his visit to Jakarta tomorrow.
