Letter from Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan to Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu J Jayalalithaa

5 December 2015

Her Excellency J Jayalalithaa
Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu
Republic of India

Dear Excellency,

I am saddened by the hundreds of lives lost and disrupted due to the severe flooding in Chennai and other parts of Tamil Nadu.  Like many Singaporeans, I hope that the floods will recede soon.  I am confident that normalcy will return to your state in the near future under your leadership.

In support of relief efforts, the Singapore Red Cross has launched a "South India Floods 2015" public appeal and the Singapore Government will commit US$75,000 as seed contribution.  We hope that this will be of some assistance to those affected by the floods, and demonstrate Singapore’s solidarity with the people of Tamil Nadu during this difficult period.

Yours sincerely,

DR VIVIAN BALAKRISHNAN
