MFA Press Statement: Sixth Ministerial Conference of the Bali Process on People Smuggling, Trafficking in Persons and Related Transnational Crime in Bali, Indonesia, 23 March 2016

Chairperson of the Government Parliamentary Committee for Home Affairs and Law and Member of Parliament Christopher De Souza attended the sixth Ministerial Conference of the Bali Process on People Smuggling, Trafficking in Persons and Related Transnational Crime that was held in Bali on 23 March 2016.  He was accompanied by officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration and Checkpoints Authority and the Attorney-General’s Chambers.

Mr De Souza delivered a statement at the Ministerial Conference expressing Singapore’s support for the Bali Process as a voluntary, non-binding and member-driven forum for dialogue, information-sharing and capacity-building.  He shared with the Conference some of the recent steps Singapore had taken to combat the transnational crimes of people smuggling and trafficking in persons, including the passage of Singapore’s Prevention of Human Trafficking Act in 2015.  Singapore welcomes further opportunities to work closely with our regional and international partners on these challenges.
