MFA Press Statement: Visit of Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong to Hainan, People’s Republic of China, 22 to 25 March 2016

 

        Emeritus Senior Minister (ESM) Goh Chok Tong is visiting Hainan Province, People’s Republic of China, from 22 to 25 March 2016 to attend the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) Annual Conference.

 

        ESM, who is member of the BFA Board of Directors, called on Premier Li Keqiang with other BFA Board members this afternoon. They discussed how the BFA could contribute to Asia’s development.

 

      ESM also met former Vice Premier and current BFA Vice Chairman Zeng Peiyan at the sidelines of the BFA Annual Conference.  ESM congratulated Mr Zeng on the growing success of the BFA Annual Conferences as well as the relevance and timeliness of this year’s theme of “Asia’s New Future: New Dynamics, New Vision”.  They agreed on the usefulness of continuing the discussions on this year’s theme at future BFA Conferences.  Both ESM and Mr Zeng also affirmed the excellent state of bilateral relations.  ESM thanked Mr Zeng for his long-standing support for the development of Sino-Singapore relations.

 

        ESM also met Guangzhou Party Secretary Ren Xuefeng.  They agreed that Singapore and Guangzhou could strengthen cooperation in areas such as education and research.  They also discussed how Singapore and Guangzhou can deepen cooperation through Phase II of the Sino-Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City.  Party Secretary Ren also briefed ESM on recent developments in Guangzhou.
