MFA Press Statement: Introductory Visit by Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan to Japan, 24 to 27 April 2016

            Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan will make an introductory visit to Japan from 24 to 27 April 2016.  This visit will also commemorate the 50th Anniversary of diplomatic relations between Singapore and Japan. 

 

          During his visit, Minister Balakrishnan will call on Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and be hosted to dinner by Minister for Foreign Affairs Fumio Kishida.  Minister Balakrishnan will also meet Minister of the Environment Tamayo Marukawa, members of the Japan-Singapore Parliamentary Friendship League including Chairman Kenji Kosaka, Minister of Health, Labour and Welfare Yasuhisa Shiozaki and Minister in charge of Economic Revitalisation Nobuteru Ishihara, and other political and business leaders.

 

            Minister Balakrishnan will also deliver the keynote speech at the 11th Japan Singapore Symposium (JSS) on 26 April, the date of the establishment of our diplomatic relations 50 years ago.  The JSS will be attended by politicians, officials, academics, and business and media representatives from both countries. 

 

                Minister Balakrishnan will be accompanied by Mrs Joy Balakrishnan, as well as senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
