MFA Press Statement: Official Visit of Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Norway Erna Solberg to Singapore, 12 to 14 April 2016

            Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Norway Erna Solberg, who is on an official visit to Singapore, received a ceremonial welcome at the Istana today. She then called on President Tony Tan Keng Yam and met with Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, who also hosted lunch. During the meetings, the leaders reaffirmed the excellent and long-standing ties between the two countries. Prime Minister Solberg said that Norway looked forward to welcoming President Tan when he makes a State Visit to Norway in October this year.

            President Tan and Prime Minister Solberg agreed that both countries should continue to work together in areas such as sustainable development and research and education as well as explore new areas of cooperation. Prime Minister Lee and Prime Minister Solberg exchanged views on a wide variety of issues, including the global economic outlook as well as regional and economic developments. They also exchanged views on the economic strategies taken by both countries to remain vibrant and resilient, and ways to strengthen bilateral ties. 

            Earlier today, Prime Minister Solberg delivered the keynote address at the 6th Norway-Asia Business Summit alongside Minister for Trade and Industry (Trade) Lim Hng Kiang at the Fullerton Hotel. Prime Minister Solberg and Minister Lim spoke on how Norway could tap on the dynamism and growth potential of ASEAN and the broader Asia Pacific region.

            This afternoon, Prime Minister Solberg toured the DNV GL Singapore Laboratory. This evening, she will deliver the IISS Fullerton lecture titled “The Global Goals – A Roadmap to a Sustainable, Fair and More Peaceful Future”. 

            Prime Minister Solberg will depart Singapore tomorrow morning.
