                Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan met US Secretary of State John Kerry on 10 June 2016 in Washington DC.  Minister Balakrishnan and Secretary Kerry reaffirmed the excellent bilateral relations between Singapore and the US as both countries celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations this year.  They noted the deep and enduring partnership built-up over the last five decades ranging from robust economic and defence cooperation, to security cooperation and strong people-to-people ties. Minister Balakrishnan also conveyed Singapore’s appreciation for President Barack Obama’s invitation to host Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong at the White House for an Official Visit and State Dinner in August.

                 Minister Balakrishnan welcomed the efforts of the US to strengthen ties with countries in Southeast Asia and ASEAN, and had a fruitful discussion with Secretary Kerry on regional developments, including the South China Sea issue.

                Minister Balakrishnan departs the US for Singapore today.
