MFA Press Statement: State Visit by President Tony Tan Keng Yam to the United Mexican States, 7 to 11 June 2016

                   President Tony Tan Keng Yam will make a State Visit to the United Mexican States from 7 to 11 June 2016 at the invitation of President of Mexico Enrique Peña Nieto.  This will be the first State Visit by a Singapore Head of State to Mexico and Latin America, and will commemorate the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Singapore and Mexico.

                   President Tan will receive a ceremonial welcome at the historic Palacio Nacional and will meet President Peña Nieto, who will host a State Lunch in President Tan’s honour.  President Tan will also receive the Key to Mexico City from the Head of Government of Mexico City Dr Miguel Ángel Mancera.

                   President Tan will attend a business luncheon co-organised by the Singapore Business Federation (SBF) and the Mexican Business Council for Foreign Trade, Investment and Technology (COMCE).  The luncheon will involve Mexican companies, as well as Singapore companies participating in a business mission to Mexico City organised by International Enterprise Singapore (IES) and SBF.  SBF, COMCE, IES and its counterpart ProMexico will also organise other business events on the sidelines of the State Visit.  A Singapore Film Festival, the first to be held in Mexico, will take place from 8 to 12 June 2016.

                   President Tony Tan will be accompanied by Mrs Mary Tan, Minister for Trade & Industry (Trade) Lim Hng Kiang, Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Defence and Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr Maliki Osman, Members of Parliament Tin Pei Ling and Darryl David, and senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Trade and Industry, IES, and the Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority of Singapore.

                   During President Tan’s absence, Mr J Y Pillay, Chairman of the Council of Presidential Advisers, will exercise the functions of the office of the President for the period from 7 to 13 June 2016.
