MFA Press Statement: DPM Teo Chee Hean and Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office Chan Chun Sing bring 70th birthday greetings to His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam

                    Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) and Coordinating Minister for National Security Teo Chee Hean and Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office Chan Chun Sing are in Negara Brunei Darussalam from 14 to 16 July to convey 70th birthday greetings to His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, and to attend the celebrations. 

                   DPM Teo and Minister Chan attended the Royal Guard of Honour Ceremony and Investiture Ceremony this morning during which Singapore’s Chief of Defence Force LG Perry Lim was conferred the “Most Exalted Order of Darjah Paduka Keberanian Laila Terbilang Yang Amat Gemilang Darjah Pertama (D.P.K.T.)” state award.  They had an audience with the Sultan and Her Majesty the Raja Isteri in the afternoon, during which DPM Teo conveyed birthday greetings from Singapore.  The Sultan reaffirmed the strong and steadfast bilateral relationship, and discussed the importance of close and regular interactions between the next generation of leaders.  DPM Teo welcomed the visit to Singapore by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al-Muhtadee Billah for the Young Leaders Programme later this year, and also the upcoming visit by His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Malik.

                  DPM Teo and Minister Chan will attend the Royal Banquet this evening, and meet senior Bruneian ministers before departing for Singapore tomorrow morning (16 July).
