Senior Minister of State (Prime Minister’s Office, Foreign Affairs, and Transport) Mrs Josephine Teo was on a working visit in Vietnam from 17 to 20 July 2016.
In Hanoi, SMS Teo called on Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Pham Binh Minh. They reaffirmed the warm relations and extensive bilateral cooperation between Singapore and Vietnam. They also discussed regional developments and opportunities for expanding bilateral and regional cooperation and connectivity. SMS Teo also met Minister of Transport Truong Quang Nghia where they noted the progress in the bilateral Air Services Agreement (ASA) discussions and looked forward to further liberalisation of the ASA.
SMS Teo also called on Secretary of the Party Committee of Hanoi Hoang Trung Hai and Chairman of the People’s Committee of Hanoi Nguyen Duc Chung. They outlined the priority areas for Hanoi’s development for the next five years, such as urban development, green landscaping, and sustainable development, and invited Singapore companies to tap on these opportunities.
In Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC), SMS Teo called on Secretary of the Party Committee of HCMC Dinh La Thang and Chairman of the People’s Committee of HCMC Nguyen Thanh Phong. SMS Teo noted the strong economic links between Singapore and Vietnam and conveyed Singapore companies’ interest in contributing to HCMC’s economic vibrancy and urban development. Party Secretary Thang and Chairman Phong recognised Singapore as the top foreign investor in HCMC and reiterated their support to continue providing a favourable environment for Singapore businesses and investments to thrive in.
SMS Teo also met Singapore business representatives based in Hanoi and HCMC.
