MFA Spokesman's Comments on the Terrorist Attacks in Saudi Arabia, 5 July 2016

Singapore strongly condemns the series of terrorist attacks in Jeddah, Qatif and Madinah in Saudi Arabia on 4 July 2016. The attack in Madinah, which resulted in several deaths and injuries, was particularly heinous given that it took place near the Prophet’s Mosque, which is one of the holiest sites in Islam. Such acts of violence show that terrorism knows no boundaries.  We also express our heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and we hope that the injured would recover soon.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has verified the safety of most of the registered Singaporeans in Madinah. We will continue to contact the remaining registered Singaporeans. The Singapore Embassy in Riyadh and the Consulate-General in Jeddah are in contact with the local authorities. Thus far, there are no reports of any Singaporeans injured or directly affected by the attacks.

Singaporeans in Saudi Arabia are advised to exercise vigilance and follow the instructions of the local authorities, and when possible, let their family and friends know that they are safe. Singaporeans who require consular assistance should contact the Singapore Embassy in Riyadh, the Singapore Consulate-General in Jeddah or the 24-hour Duty Office at:
