The Republic of Singapore and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan established diplomatic relations on 17 August 1966. To commemorate the 50th anniversary of that event, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan will exchange congratulatory messages with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Adviser to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz respectively. The texts of the messages from PM Lee and Minister Balakrishnan are appended.

Since diplomatic relations were established in 1966, Singapore and Pakistan have enjoyed warm and friendly relations which are underpinned by close people-to-people ties. The Pakistani community in Singapore has added vibrancy to our multicultural social fabric over the years. Our two countries should continue to work towards strengthening these bonds and to expand cooperation to the mutual benefit of our peoples.
