            A delegation of Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) from the International Trade Committee (INTA) visited Singapore from 19 – 21 September 2016.  The delegation comprised European People’s Party Trade Policy Coordinator Daniel Caspary, INTA Vice-Chair Iuliu Winkler, MEP Artis Pabriks, MEP Jaroslaw Walesa and MEP Salvatore Cicu. 

 

               The delegation met with Minister for Trade & Industry (Trade) Lim Hng Kiang on 20 September 2016.  Minister Lim and the delegation reaffirmed the strong economic ties between Singapore and the European Union (EU).  Both sides reaffirmed their support for the expeditious ratification of the Singapore-EU Free Trade Agreement.  The delegation was also hosted to dinner by Senior Minister of State, Prime Minister’s Office, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Transport, Josephine Teo on 19 September 2016.  In addition to exchanging views on developments in Asia and Europe, SMS Teo and the delegation discussed the robust ties between the EU and Singapore in various sectors, including trade, investment and aviation.  Both sides welcomed the proposed ASEAN-EU Comprehensive Air Transport Agreement.

 

               The delegation also observed a Meet-the-People session hosted by Minister of State, Ministry of Communications & Information and Ministry of Health, Chee Hong Tat at Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC on 20 September 2016.

 

               While in Singapore, the delegation also had briefings at the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) and the Smart Nation Programme Office.
