MFA Press Statement: Visit by Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Defence and Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr Maliki Osman to Indonesia, 27 Oct 2016

SMS Dr Maliki Osman will attend the 16^th Council of Ministers Meeting of the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) in Bali, Indonesia on 27 October 2016. The meeting is hosted by Indonesia, the current IORA Chair. Together with IORA Member States, SMS Maliki will discuss ways to enhance cooperation within the Indian Ocean Rim. He will also hold bilateral meetings with ministerial representatives of the IORA Member States.

Singapore is a founding member of IORA, which was established in 1997 to promote regional trade and economic cooperation among the Indian Ocean littoral and island states. The group currently has 21 Member States from Africa, the Middle East, South Asia, Southeast Asia and Australia, and seven Dialogue Partners, namely China, Egypt, Japan, France, Germany, the UK and the US. SMS Maliki will be accompanied by officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
