Deputy President of the Republic of South Africa Cyril Matamela Ramaphosa called on President Tony Tan Keng Yam, and was hosted to lunch by Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for Economic and Social Policies Tharman Shanmugaratnam today.
President and Deputy President Ramaphosa reaffirmed the warm and broad-based relations between Singapore and South Africa, especially in the areas of defence, trade and aviation. Over lunch, DPM Tharman and Deputy President Ramaphosa discussed ways to strengthen bilateral engagements in a number of areas, particularly in economic cooperation with a view to boost bilateral trade and investment. DPM Tharman and Deputy President Ramaphosa also exchanged views on regional developments and the global economy.
As part of his official programme, Deputy President Ramaphosa will receive briefings on Singapore’s housing and economic policies, as well as Singapore’s experience in port management. He will also deliver a speech entitled “South Africa: Into The Next Ten Years” at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy on 7 October 2016.
Deputy President Ramaphosa is visiting Singapore at the invitation of DPM Tharman. He will depart Singapore on 7 October 2016.
