MFA Press Statement: Official Visit of the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Bhutan Tshering Tobgay to Singapore, 27 to 30 November 2016

            Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Bhutan Tshering Tobgay received a ceremonial welcome at the Istana this afternoon.  He called on Acting President J Y Pillay and met Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.  Prime Minister Lee also hosted an official lunch in honour of Prime Minister Tobgay.  During their meetings, the leaders reaffirmed the warm and friendly ties between Singapore and Bhutan.

            Acting President Pillay and Prime Minister Tobgay highlighted the excellent bilateral relationship which is underpinned by regular exchanges and growing people-to-people ties.  During their meeting, Prime Minister Lee and Prime Minister Tobgay discussed common challenges faced by small countries and exchanged views on potential areas of cooperation including tourism, capacity building, and disaster preparedness. 

            Prior to the meetings, Prime Minister Tobgay delivered a lecture at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy.  He also visited Singapore Tourism Board, Institute of Technical Education’s College West, and Immigration and Checkpoints Authority’s Woodlands Checkpoint, to learn about tourism promotion, vocational education and training, and immigration and border control.  Prime Minister Tobgay was also briefed on Singapore’s public housing policies by the Housing Development Board. 

            Prime Minister Tobgay will depart Singapore tomorrow morning.
