Director-General of the Abu Dhabi Education Council, His Excellency Dr Ali Rashid Al Nuaimi, who is currently in Singapore for the Middle East Eminent Persons Programme (MEEPP), called on Minister for Education (Schools) and Second Minister for Transport Ng Chee Meng yesterday, where they had a useful exchange of views on developments in the education field. Dr Al Nuaimi was briefed on Singapore’s curriculum planning and visited a primary school to learn about the utilisation of technology in classrooms. He will visit the Singapore Examinations and Assessments Board and the National Institute of Education today.
Dr Al Nuaimi also met Senior Minister of State (SMS), Prime Minister’s Office, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Transport Josephine Teo. Dr Al Nuaimi and SMS Teo reaffirmed the warm bilateral ties between Singapore and the UAE. SMS Teo welcomed the Abu Dhabi Education Council’s interest in learning more about Singapore’s skills development programmes. She also had a useful exchange of views on countering religious extremism with Dr Nuaimi, who is concurrently the Chairman of Hedayah and the Secretary General of the Muslim Council of Elders. [Note: Hedayah is an international centre based in Abu Dhabi to promote efforts to counter violent extremism, while the Muslim Council of Elders, consisting of Muslim scholars and experts, aims to promote peace within Muslim communities.]
Dr Al Nuaimi will be hosted to lunch by Minister for Communications and Information, and Minister-in-charge of Muslim Affairs Dr Yaacob Ibrahim today and will also visit the Religious Rehabilitation Group Resource and Counselling Centre.
The MEEPP is a programme administered by MFA. Launched in 2007, the MEEPP aims to bring distinguished Middle East personalities to Singapore to promote mutual understanding and cooperation.
