MFA Press Statement: Working Visit by Prime Minister Xavier Bettel of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg to Singapore, 14 to 15 November 2016

               Prime Minister of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg Xavier Bettel met Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong this evening at the Istana.  They reaffirmed the warm bilateral relations between Singapore and Luxembourg, and discussed regional and international developments.  After the meeting, the leaders witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Singapore’s National Research Foundation and Luxembourg’s National Research Fund to foster science and innovation collaborations through funding for joint projects.  Prime Minister Lee also hosted Prime Minister Bettel to dinner, and a tour of Gardens by the Bay earlier in the day.

               Prime Minister Bettel delivered a speech titled “Political Leadership in the Digital Age” at the Singapore Management University (SMU) this afternoon.  Senior Minister of State, Prime Minister’s Office, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Transport Josephine Teo and Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth and Ministry of Trade and Industry Sim Ann attended the lecture along with members of the diplomatic corps, civil service, businesses, as well as staff and students of SMU.  In the morning, Prime Minister Bettel visited one-north, where he was hosted to a tour of FusionWorld by the Agency of Science, Technology and Research.  He was also briefed on Singapore’s vision for autonomous vehicles by the Ministry of Transport, and took a test drive in an autonomous vehicle.

               Prime Minister Bettel returns to Luxembourg tonight.
