Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin, who is in Singapore for an official visit, called on Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan who also hosted lunch. They reaffirmed the friendly ties between Singapore and Ukraine on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of diplomatic relations this year, and discussed ways to strengthen and broaden bilateral cooperation. They also exchanged views on developments in Asia and Europe.
After their meeting, Minister Balakrishnan and Minister Klimkin witnessed the signing of two Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs). The MOU between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and Singapore Cooperation Enterprise (SCE) will explore opportunities for the sharing of Singapore’s experiences with Ukraine in various areas including economic development, sea and air port management, and special economic zones. The MOU between the Ministry of Science and Education of Ukraine (MESU) and Singapore’s Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) will explore collaborations in mutual areas of interest in science and technology. Both Ministers welcomed the MOUs, which will pave the way for closer bilateral collaborations.
Minister Klimkin also paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, who welcomed the strengthening bilateral ties. In addition, Minister Klimkin called on Minister for Home Affairs and Minister for Law K Shanmugam.
This afternoon, Minister Klimkin delivered a speech at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy entitled “The Challenges Ahead – Europe and the World”.
Minister Klimkin departs Singapore for Kyiv tonight.
